Jim Jordan Hasn’t Passed A Bill In 16 Years In Congress - Republicans Just Nominated Him To Be Speaker
For the second time this week, the divided and chaotic House Republican conference has picked their nominee for speaker of the House, and he’s terrible.
Congressman Jim Jordan defeated Congressman Austin Scott in Friday’s closed-door, secret-ballot speaker contest by a vote of 124-81.
House Republicans have opted not to go to the floor and hold a vote to elect Jordan Speaker and instead are heading home for the weekend amid concerns Jim Jordan doesn’t have the 217 votes needed to win the Speakership.

Because of the party’s razor-thin majority, just five GOP detractors can block Jordan in a House floor vote, and a handful of Republicans have already said they won’t vote for Jordan.
One Republican of those Republicans is Colorado Representative Ken Buck.
Buck said he would refuse to back Jordan after he would admit that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election during the closed-door Republican Conference meeting on Wednesday.
“If we don’t have the moral clarity to decide whether President Biden won or not, we don’t have the moral clarity to rule in this country, period,” Buck said in an interview Wednesday.
If Jordan is not able to get the votes, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has proposed traditional Republicans could break with the extremists within the House Republican Conference and partner with Democrats on a bipartisan path forward.
While it’s not clear who the next Speaker will be, one thing is clear, the Republican chaos which leaves the House leaderless, has prevented Congress from acting to aid Israel, pass additional funding for Ukraine, and work to prevent a looming government shutdown on November 17th.
Republican chaos is costing the American people and our allies, proving once again the GOP is unable to govern.
