GOP Chaos Makes Us Look Like “Idiots” Says Republican Congressman

Congressman Austin Scott of Georgia is the latest Republican to announce they are seeking the House speakership after Majority Leader Steve Scalise dropped out of the race Thursday.

Scott announced his intentions for the speakership in a Friday post on Twitter, “I have filed to be Speaker of the House. We are in Washington to legislate, and I want to lead a House that functions in the best interest of the American people.”

Congressman Scott joins the race out of annoyance with the GOP’s failed attempts to get the House in order. On Thursday, he went as far as to say that the GOP’s inability to elect a new speaker “makes us look like a bunch of idiots.”

Scott will now face off against Congressman Jim Jordan, who is also seeking the speaker’s gavel after McCarthy was ousted from the role this month and declined to run again.

Scott, who represents Georgia’s 8th Congressional District, serves on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Armed Services Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
