Bipartisan Bill Introduced To Make Election Day A Federal Holiday

Pennsylvania Republican Brian Fitzpatrick and Michigan Democrat Debbie Dingell introduced a bill to make Election Day a federal holiday on Tuesday.

“There is no institution more fundamental to our democracy than our elections,” said Fitzpatrick. “At the beginning of this 118th Congress, I was proud to introduce a comprehensive reform package that includes measures to ensure election integrity, guarantee that only American citizens vote in our elections, and standardize absentee vote counting to produce election results quickly — and this bill is the next step. Designating Election Day as a federal holiday will give all Americans more flexibility and accessibility to cast their votes.”

“The single most important right an American has is the right to vote, but too many Americans still face obstacles when trying to cast their ballot,” said Dingell. “We must always continue moving forward in the fight to make it easier – not harder – for all Americans to exercise this Constitutional right and responsibility. I’m proud to join Rep. Fitzpatrick in this effort to ensure every American has the ability to make their voices heard.”
